Information About New Flood Maps and Flood Ordinance Changes


Brunswick County is considering adopting new flood maps and amending the County’s Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance, to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

FEMA regularly updates Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) using studies to improve the maps and ensure their accuracy. The last maps FEMA approved for our area were adopted in 2006; since then, FEMA has worked to study and improve these maps. Now that FEMA has approved updated maps, Brunswick County can adopt them and continue to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

To view the current effective maps or the preliminary maps on the State’s website, visit the Flood Risk Information System (FRIS) – Flood Maps, which will automatically show the current effective maps. To view the preliminary maps, in the top right corner of the page, click on “Effective” and change to “Preliminary.” This will allow the viewer to see the maps being adopted on August 28, 2018.

Brunswick County will be scheduling a public hearing about these changes, and a public informational workshop will be held on July 10, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the County Commissioners Chambers, at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia, NC.

Under and by virtue of an Order of the District Court of Brunswick County, North Carolina, made and entered in the action entitled “County of Brunswick vs. SB Holdings, LLC,” the undersigned commissioner will on the 6th day of April, 2018, offer for sale and sell for cash, to the last and highest bidder at public auction, at the courthouse door in Brunswick County, North Carolina, in Bolivia at 12:00 noon the following described real property, lying and being in the State and County aforesaid, and more particularly described as follows:

PARCEL # 0560000801:

Beginning at a point where the northern line of Town Creek Road (SR # 1413) intersects the run of Old Grove Branch, said point being North twenty-five (25) degrees fifty-three (53) minutes West thirty (30.00) feet from a nail in the center line of said road, said nail being North sixty-four (64) degrees seven (07) minutes East one-hundred fifty-eight and thirty one-hundredths (158.30) feet from an old pipe in the center line of said road and being shown on a map of Royal Oaks Acres recorded in Map Cabinet J at Page 305 in the Brunswick County Registry, running thence from said beginning with the Northern line of said Town Creek Road North sixty-four (64) degrees seven (07) minutes East one-hundred forty-three and six one-hundredths (143.06) feet to an iron pipe thence with said Northern line North Sixty-Eight (68) degrees twenty-eight (28) minutes East seventy-five and ninety one-hundredths (75.90) feet to an iron pipe thence North twenty-one (21) degrees thirty-two (32) minutes West two-hundred fifteen and fifty-nine one-hundredths (215.59) feet to an iron pipe in the run of Old Grove Branch, thence with the run of said Branch to the point of Beginning, said Beginning being South forty-two (42) degrees forty-two (42) minutes West one-hundred ninety-three and ninety-one one-hundredths (193.91) feet and South four (04) degrees twenty-two (22) minutes East one-hundred forty-eight and seventy-seven one-hundredths (148.77) feet from the preceding point, containing 0.866 acres more or less as shown on that map entitled “Survey and Division for Annie Jeanette H Leonard” dated February 3, 1994 and prepared by Benjamin C. Brown, RLS and being part of a tract conveyed to Annie Jeanette H Leonard by Deed recorded in Deed Book 264, at Page 307 in the aforementioned Registry.

The sale will be made subject to all outstanding city and county taxes and all local improvement assessments against the above-described property not included in the judgment in the above-entitled cause.  A deposit of 5 percent of the successful bid will be required.
