It is unlawful for any person to abandon a junked-nuisance motor vehicle (including old buses, boats and equipment) on public or private property within the unincorporated areas of Brunswick County, except in a bona fide, properly permitted-conforming (via the Zoning Department) motor vehicle junkyard. A junked-nuisance vehicle is described as partially dismantled or wrecked; or cannot be self-propelled or moved in the manner in which originally intended to move; or is breeding ground for mosquitoes or rodents; or surrounded by heavy vegetation; or a point of collection for trash, debris, garbage, water, combustible items; or is so situated and located to present a danger of the vehicle rolling-falling over; or one which has parts which are jagged or contain sharp edges of metal or glass that could injure someone; or one that is declared a health-safety hazard and a public nuisance by the code enforcement officer. Code enforcement officers aggressively pursue junked-nuisance vehicle violations for abatement and compliance. Such vehicles found in violation are tagged, notice of violations sent parties of interest, citations issued and vehicles eventually removed and disposed of according to law.
