The Engineering Department performs the following duties:

• Assists in negotiations with engineering consultants and contractors for county projects.
• Reviews plans and specifications for subdivisions and utility improvements for conformance with federal, state, and local regulations. Makes recommendations to staff, developers, and designers regarding modification or approval of plans.
• Supervises the enforcement of federal, state and local regulations for stormwater management, and subdivision development.
• Reviews bids and proposals, and makes recommendations to the Brunswick County Board Of Commissioners.
• Directs, monitors, and inspects the work of private architectural/engineering firms, construction firms, and other vendors contracted to provide services on major county projects to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
• Engineering Director is the director, clerk, and staff advisor to the Utility Operations Board and is a board member of the Lower Caper Fear Water And Sewer Authority. (This is an appointment and not a requirement of this position.)
