Campaign Finance

The law states that within ten days of any of the following events a candidate must open a political committee and appoint a treasurer:

  • Receiving or spending any money in support of their candidacy,
  • Filing a notice of candidacy, or
  • Making a public announcement of a definite intent to run for public office in a particular election.

Campaign Finance Paperwork
When opening a political committee, the first question a candidate should consider is whether they intend to receive or spend more than $1,000 or less than $1,000. (This reflects a change in law that became effective December 1, 2009, reducing the reporting threshold from $3,000 to $1,000.) Once this determination has been made, candidates may print and complete the appropriate forms below. The completed forms should be mailed or delivered to the Board of Elections office  The SAMPLE packets provide an example of how each form should be filled out.
