The Brunswick County Maternity Health Services is a program that
offers pregnant women comprehensive prenatal care by certified nurse
midwives, and Brunswick Community Hospital and Women's Center
physicians. In addition to prenatal care, patients are offered
childbirth and maternity classes. Patients may deliver at New Hanover
Regional Medical Center or Brunswick Community Hospital.
Who Program Serves
The Maternity Health Services program is available to those persons who meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Female
- Any age
- Provides proof of positive pregnancy test
- Brunswick County resident
Services Provided
During the exam, a doctor, nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, or maternity nurse:
- Performs an initial complete physical exam*.
- Performs a follow exam.
- Provides maternity care coordination.
- Provides health education.
- Provides nutritional services (see also WIC page).
- Provides assistance applying for Medicaid, if necessary.
* Initial exam performed by a doctor, nurse practitioner, or
certified nurse midwife. Follow-up exam may be performed by maternity
nurse, or above-mentioned.
Any abnormal findings are referred to a doctor.
Other pre-birth services available include:
- Childbirth classes
- Parenting classes
- Prenatal visit by Public Health Nurse; if ordered by a doctor, certified nurse midwife, or nurse practitioner.
After Birth Services Provided
After the baby's birth, the following services are available:

Time: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM (appts. only)
Day: 1st Tuesday of each month.
Time: 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM (appts. only)
Days: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.
Time: 8:30 AM (appts. only -- for 6 new patients)
Day: 3rd Tuesday of each month.
Time: 8:30 AM - 1:45 PM (appts. only)

Fees based on patient's ability to pay (sliding scale).
