The purpose of the Brunswick Soil & Water Conservation District
is to provide leadership in formulating a plan of conservation and
protection for soil and water in the county. As of June 2000, the
District has assisted in writing conservation plans on nearly 1,613
acres of cropland, pastureland, hayland, and woodland. The District has
provided technical assistance to nearly 190 landowners, which has
resulted in the installation of more than 225 conservation practices
that meet NRCS Technical Guide Standards. The conservation practices
have included waste management systems, conservation tillage, cover and
green manure crops, and pasture and hayland management, thereby
reducing erosion and benefiting wtaer quality in the Cape Fear and
Lumber River Basins. Conservation buffers also have been planned on 850
acres in the county.
