 55+ Program

The Brunswick County Parks & Recreation Department offers a number of programs especially for seniors. The programs offer fun, fellowship, and fitness.

Participant must provide clubs. Preregistration is required by calling Khrystye at 910-253-2677, or email your name, phone number, and age to Khrystye Haselden. Registration is not complete until tournament fee is paid.

Senior Golf 2009 POLICIES & PROCEDURES
  1. tournaments are open to Brunswick County Seniors, age 55 years and older.
  2. Age groupings: 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, etc. Awards are given in each age group for males and females for the lowest gross score.
  3. Price for play will typically include cart and greens fees, tips for cart attendants, refreshments, prizes. Please see each month’s tournament details. Some courses do not allow distribution of refreshments. Refreshments will be given once around the course. In the case of inclement weather, refreshments will be given at registration.
    TO KEEP COSTS LOW, EACH GOLFER IS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 1 DRINK and 1 SNACK. IN EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER, ADDITIONAL WATER WILL BE AVAILABLE.
  4. Registration for each golf tournament will begin the Friday after the current month’s tournament and continue until the Friday prior to the next tournament or until filled. Pre-registration is required. To register, email your request to khaselden@brunsco.net or call (910) 253-2677. Early emails or calls will not be accepted. When registering, you must have all players’ names and ages. Also, be sure to leave a phone number where you can be reached to confirm your entry.
  5. Payment must be in the form of cash or check made payable to the golf course during the sign-in hour prior to play. Credit cards cannot be accepted. If you are with a group, designate one player in your group to gather payment from each person to bring to sign-in. This will help expedite the sign-in process and shorten your wait time in line.
  6. Participants may choose their foursome, but will compete within each individual age group. Individuals or twosomes may also sign-up and will be placed in a foursome.
  7. Men 55-69 will play from the white tee, men 70 and over will play from the yellow tee, and women will play from the red tees.
  8. 5 1/2 hours will be allotted for play. This may change due to inclement weather or group size. Golf course pro will make the final decision regarding time allotted. Please be aware that slow play may be a factor with large groups. Where ever possible, it is YOUR responsibility to ask the group ahead of you if you can play through. The double par pick up rule will be used to help expedite play.
  9. At the end of the allotted time for play, prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners. Players who have not turned in their scorecards within the allotted time for play are not eligible for prizes.
  10. Scorecards MUST include last name, first initial and age to be eligible for prizes.
  11. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners.
  12. Players MUST be present to claim prizes. Winner's name will be announced twice. If there is no response, the prize will go the next lowest scorer.
  13. Brunswick County Gator Senior Games Golf Tournament is included in this series and will be held at Brierwood Golf Course on April 23. This tourney is for Brunswick Gator Sr. Games participants only. Fee is paid with registration. Registration packet is due by 3/13/09. Call for details 910-253-2670 or email khaselden@brunsco.net

SENIOR CHEERLEADING / DANCE

Attention Brunswick County Residents aged 55 & older:

Add a little fun and exercise to your life - become a Brunswick County Senior Games Cheerleader and/or Dancer!
Absolutely no experience required!
Brunswick County Parks and Recreation is currently forming cheerleading and dance teams open to women and men aged 55 and older, who are residents of Brunswick County.

No tryouts, no fees, just fun!
These teams practice weekly and perform throughout the area.
Practice is held each Thursday at 1:30 pm at the Shallotte Senior Center.

Trip for Seniors to Myrtle Beach Pelicans Home Game/Cook Out


Brunswick County Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a trip for people 55 years and older to Myrtle Beach to see the Pelicans play baseball Thursday, July 23, 2009. The cost is $35 per person. Trip includes roundtrip transportation from Bolivia/Shallotte, all-you-can-eat cookout and game admission. Deadline to register is 7/2/09. To register, call 910-287-5851.

Gator Games

What is Brunswick County Senior Gator Games??

Gator Sr Games is much more than friendly competition in athletics and arts. People 55 and older can participate and stay active, renew old skills, learn new ones, and exercise a positive outlook on life. It is a fun and healthy approach to keeping the body, mind, and spirit fit while enjoying the company of friends, family, spectators, and volunteers.

You can choose from over 80 events to compete in including golf, bowling, swimming, shuffleboard, table tennis, running, walking, and horseshoes. Brunswick County Gator Sr Games also offers competition in SilverArts, which includes all heritage, literary, and performing arts.


Qualifiers in Brunswick County Gator Senior Games are invited to compete each Fall in NC State Finals. Brunswick County Gator Senior Games is sanctioned by North Carolina Senior Games and one of 54 local Senior Games offered state wide by the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services.
