Brunswick County has received additional results of testing for GenX in the water supply. Samples taken on Oct. 19 revealed levels of 281 parts per trillion in the Northwest Water Treatment Plant’s raw water source, and 197 parts per trillion in the finished water source. Both results are above the State of North Carolina’s established health goal of 140 parts per trillion for the most vulnerable populations.
“After months of GenX results well below the health goal, we are certainly concerned about this recent elevation,” said Brunswick County Manager Ann Hardy. “Our first priority is to work with our partners at the State to determine the source of this elevation and to take any measures necessary to immediately cease further discharge.
“We continue to work quickly towards finding the most effective water treatment solution for Brunswick County,” Hardy continued. “I am hopeful that our municipal partners will come together to work towards a county-wide solution that is in the best interest of all residents.”
In light of the latest results, Brunswick County has made available an updated fact sheet about GenX, which can be found at www.brunswickcountync.gov/brunswick-county-genx-fact-sheet-nov-8.
