Disposal Bans

The North Carolina General Assembly has established disposal bans on a wide range of items. The following items have been banned from landfill disposal:

  • Used oil
  • Yard trash (with exceptions)
  • White goods
  • Antifreeze
  • Aluminum cans
  • Whole scrap tires
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Oyster shells
  • Motor vehicle oil filers (effective Oct. 2009)
  • Recyclable rigid plastic containers (with exceptions and effective Oct. 2009)
  • Wooden pallets (effective Oct. 2009)
  • Discarded computer equipment and televisions (effective Jan. 2011)
