System Pressure Advisory: Part of Boiling Spring Lakes / Aviso de Presion del Sistema Meteorologico

10.17.2018

The water consumers of Brunswick County Public Utilities located in Boiling Spring Lakes on E. Boiling Springs Rd. and all connecting roads off E. Boiling Springs Dr. on both sides between North Lake Dr. and the dam have experienced loss of water pressure due to a main line break at the dam caused by contractors working on storm clean up. We have crews on site assessing the damage to repair the line.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, Brunswick County Public Utilities and the Division of Water Resources advises that consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued.

Veterans State Benefits (Property Tax Exclusion)

A NC property tax homestead exclusion (G.S. 105-277-1C), for honorably discharged veterans who are permanent and total, service connected disabled, and their surviving spouses began January 1, 2009.

(This pertains to those veterans receiving 100% service connected disability or who are receiving Individual Unemployability due to their service connected disabilities through the VA, in either case, the disability must be deemed by the VA to be permanent and total.)

The exclusion is for the permanent residence owned and occupied by an owner who is a North Carolina resident and who is honorably discharged, permanent and total service connected disabled veteran or their unmarried surviving spouse.

The first $45,000 of appraised value of the residence is excluded from taxation. An owner who receives exclusion under this section may not receive other property tax relief.

To apply for this benefit, please contact our office. A certification form must be completed and sent to the Winston-Salem Regional Office. Once this certification is returned to you, you will need to submit it to the Brunswick County Tax Office, along with the County’s Property Tax Relief application.
