LELAND, N.C. – To improve safety on a Brunswick County road, the N.C. Department of Transportation will need to close a lane of U.S. 17 North Business / U.S. 421 South overnight for a few weeks.

The left eastbound lane of the highway near the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge will be closed overnight between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. beginning April 14. The closures will take place Sunday nights through Friday mornings each week through May 10. The right lane will remain open at all times.

Crews will replace an outdated guardrail system in the median with a concrete wall, similar to the work done on U.S. 74.

Drivers should slow down and be alert for crews and equipment going through this work zone.

This work is imperative while the westbound lanes of the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge are closed for preservation work.
