BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County recently received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

Both the Certificate of Achievement and the Budget Award represent a significant accomplishment by Brunswick County. These awards reflect the commitment of the governing body and county staff to meet the highest principles of governmental financial reporting and budgeting. Brunswick County has received the Certificate of Achievement for 24 years and the Budget Award for 18 years.

“Brunswick County is honored to be recognized for our commitment to effective and transparent budgeting practices,” Finance Director Aaron Smith said. “Our staff members are trustworthy, focus on collaboration, and actively look to improve accounting processes. They ensure the commissioners and public receive an accurate financial story, and every one of them plays an important role in achieving our commissioners’ goals. I am very thankful for and proud of my team, and we are grateful for the support we get from County management and the other fiscal teams throughout our organization.”

Brunswick County’s Capital Program also received Special Recognition for achieving the highest possible score in particular categories within the GFOA’s Budget Awards Program. This is the first time Brunswick County has received this Special Recognition. Brunswick County was one of only 24 entities nationwide, the only County nationwide, and the only entity in North Carolina to receive this special recognition.
