County Closures
- Brunswick County Government will be closed effective immediately Monday, Sept. 16 due to severe weather impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries, parks, and other facilities will reopen on their regular schedules Tuesday, Sept. 17 unless additional closures or schedule changes become necessary.
- The Sept. 16 Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting is also canceled and will tentatively be rescheduled for a later date to be determined.
- The Brunswick County Landfill and Convenience Centers are also closed Monday. Monday curbside trash and recycling customers will now receive pick-up Saturday, Sept. 21. Those with questions about their cart collections should contact GFL Environmental at 910.253.4177.
Brunswick County and the National Weather Service in Wilmington are monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. The broad area of low pressure will continue to weaken, and conditions will improve across the area through tonight (Monday, Sept. 16).

- Minor coastal flooding and some beach erosion, especially with high tide this evening.
- Strong rip currents and rough surf along all beaches.
- Gusty winds (30 to 40 mph) primarily associated with any thunderstorms.
- Additional rainfall of 2 to 4 inches, primarily north of a Lumberton to Wilmington line and 1 to 2 inches possible across portions of the Pee Dee Region from near Bennettsville to Darlington and Florence.
- Flood water will continue to pool across low-lying and poor drainage, even after the rain has ended; be extra careful traveling across the area through tonight.
- Isolated tornadoes are possible through this evening, primarily north of an Elizabethtown to Wilmington line through the early evening.
