[ARCHIVED] Health Services Flu and COVID vaccinations available beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1

Brunswick County Health Services kicks off its flu and COVID vaccine efforts starting Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, at the Brunswick Health Services Main Clinic, Government Center Building A, 25 Courthouse Drive, Bolivia, NC 28422

Vaccines are available Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed. Clinic staff can accommodate requests to vaccinate individuals from their vehicles for anyone who may have mobility issues or prefers not to enter the building. 


Each year, respiratory viruses are responsible for millions of illnesses and thousands of hospitalizations and deaths in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend everyone 6 months and older get the updated flu vaccine and the updated COVID vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of flu and COVID this fall and winter.

Our department takes great pride in protecting and promoting public health by making these vaccines accessible to everyone,” Health Director David Howard said. “We encourage everyone to make plans now to protect themselves and those around them this respiratory virus season by practicing good hygiene with hand washing and surface cleaning and getting their updated flu and COVID vaccines.”

How much does a Flu or COVID vaccine cost?
Many individuals can still get their vaccines at no cost. For people with health insurance, most plans will cover the vaccines. Brunswick County Health Services will have a limited supply of vaccines available at no cost to those without insurance.

Is the updated COVID vaccine a booster?
The updated COVID vaccine is not considered a booster—although you may see some messaging in the community that calls it a booster. The updated vaccine is available to anyone 6 months or older who has:

  • Not received a COVID vaccine in the past two months, OR
  • Never received a COVID vaccine before

What is new with the updated Flu vaccine?

The updated 2024-2025 flu vaccine will all be trivalent and will protect against three flu viruses: H1N1, H3N2 and a B/Victoria lineage virus.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Bring a photo ID. If you have insurance, bring your insurance information to your appointment, too.


What should I expect during my appointment?
The updated COVID vaccine requires a 15-minute observation period after it is administered, so you are encouraged to plan ahead for this wait.

Can I get a flu vaccine at the same time as an updated COVID vaccine?
Yes, flu vaccines and COVID vaccines can be given at the same visit if you are due for both vaccines.
