MEDIA RELEASE
BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. this Monday, June 16, 2025. The public is welcome to attend in person or watch live online via Zoom (details below).
The public hearing for the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) recommended budget will continue during this meeting. Following the public hearing, the Board will consider adoption of the FY26 recommended budget, proposed schedule of fees, and capital improvement plan (CIP).
The FY26 recommended budget will guide Brunswick County’s operations and services from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. There are no proposed changes to the current property tax (ad valorem) rate of 34.20 cents in the FY26 recommended budget. There are no proposed changes to retail (residential) water and wastewater rates in FY26.
The recommended budget was presented to the Board during regular meeting on Monday, May 19. The recommended budget can be viewed in the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal and at brunswickcountync.gov/budget.

- Planning – Presentation on the Planning Department's Residential Development Dashboard: Request to present an overview of the Planning Department’s Residential Development Dashboard.
VII. Public Hearings
- Clerk to the Board – Public Hearing – FY 2026 Budget Ordinance, Fees, and Capital Improvement Plan: Request the Board hold a continuation of the public hearing regarding the FY 2026 Budget Ordinance, Fees, and Capital Improvement Plan from June 2, 2025.
VIII. Administrative Report
- Administration – Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Ordinance, Fees, Capital Improvement Plan,and Opioid Settlement Fund Resolution: Request the Board adopt the Fiscal Year 2026 budget ordinance, schedule of fees, five-year capital improvement plan, and a resolution for the use of opioid settlement funds.
- Administration – Fiscal Year 2026 One-Time Use of Reserves to Support Public and Environmental Safety: Request the Board amend the FY 2026 budget by appropriating available ARP-Enabled fund balance and County project reserves to support one-time costs for public and environmental safety.
- Administration – C-PACE Program Notice of Intent: Request the Board adopt a notice of intent to join the C-PACE Program and schedule a public hearing on the program for the July 21, 2025 board meeting.
- Administration – Fire Department Personnel Subsidy: Commissioner Thompson requests the Board consider providing the non-profit fire departments a fund balance transfer of subsidy funds from the general fund of $6,894,755. This amount would be sufficient to support four paid staff members round-the-clock for all non-profit fire departments for FY26.
- County Attorney – Proposed Legislation Prohibiting Open Burning of Land Clearing Debris Involving More than Five Contiguous Acres: Request the Board provide direction regarding proposed legislation prohibiting open burning related to land clearing debris involving more than five contiguous acres.
- Utilities – Grant Agreement – Brunswick County Sewer Pump Stations Rehabilitation Project: Request the Board approve and accept the attached grant agreement with the EPA for the Brunswick County Sewer Pump Station Rehabilitation Project and authorize staff to submit all required grant documentation. The grant value is $1,250,000 with a 20% match utilizing County funds.
IX. Board Appointments
- Clerk to the Board – Board Re-Appointment/Appointments – Library Board Districts 1, 2, and 4 / Voluntary Agricultural District Board: Request the Board consider appointment from the applicants attached to the Library Board District 4, to consider re-appointment for District 2, and to consider the re-appointment to the Voluntary Agricultural District Board.
Public Comment and Public Hearings
Most regular meetings include a time for public comment before the Commissioners at the beginning of the meeting. Some meetings also have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic.
Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.
Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
