[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: NCDOT, SCDOT Public Hearings for Carolina Bays Parkway Extension Rescheduled

The N.C. Department of Transportation and S.C. Department of Transportation will hold two rescheduled pre-hearing open houses and corridor public hearings regarding the proposed Carolina Bays Parkway Extension project. These meetings, originally planned for earlier dates, were postponed due to the potential for inclement weather.

The open houses and public hearings will be held on Monday, Oct. 20 (South Carolina) and Thursday, Oct. 23 (North Carolina). The same information will be presented at both meetings (learn more below).

NCDOT and SCDOT are proposing to extend Carolina Bays Parkway (S.C. 31) from its current location at S.C. 9 in Horry County, S.C., across the North Carolina state line to U.S. 17 in Brunswick County near Shallotte. The proposed improvement is a multi-lane full access freeway partially on a new location. The primary purpose of the project is to improve transportation in the area by enhancing mobility and connectivity for traffic moving in and through the project area.

The public hearings are scheduled for:

NCDOT and SCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. The opportunity to provide verbal comments and/or submit written comments and questions will be provided. The public may attend at any time during the above hours. UPDATE: NCDOT, SCDOT Public Hearings for Carolina Bays Parkway Extension Postponed

UPDATE – Due to forecasted weather for North Carolina and South Carolina early next week, the department has determined to postpone the upcoming public hearings for Carolina Bays Parkway Extension.

Staff will reschedule the meetings for a later date and alert the public when a date has been decided upon.
