[ARCHIVED] Voting Machine Testing to Begin Tuesday, October 7

The Brunswick County Board of Elections will begin logic and accuracy (L&A) testing on Tuesday, October 7, in preparation for the upcoming election. This testing ensures that ballots, scanners, and other components of the voting system are properly configured and functioning correctly.

“Before every election, we test the voting equipment to ensure it is election-ready,” said Sara LaVere, Director of the Brunswick County Board of Elections. “To promote transparency, the process of scanning ballots and sealing equipment is open to the public and will be live streamed.”

During the testing, ballots for a mock election will be coded and run through the tabulator. The results are compared to the expected outcome to verify the system’s accuracy. A bipartisan team oversees the preparation of the machines and conducts the tests.

After testing, the team will reset the equipment to ensure no test information remains, and the equipment will be sealed with a logged security tag.

The testing is open to the public with limited space available. Those unable to attend can view the live stream on Zoom.
