PUBLIC NOTICE
BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Solid Waste and Recycling invites residents to properly dispose of holiday waste by dropping off approved items at the Brunswick County Landfill and Convenience Centers.
Drop Off
Residents and property owners can drop off the following items at the Brunswick County Landfill and Convenience Centers:
- Live Christmas trees (without ornaments, lights, and decorations)
- Accepted at the Landfill at no charge from Jan. 2 through Jan. 31, 2026. After Jan. 31, normal tipping fees apply.
- Accepted at the Convenience Centers for $5 per tree from Jan. 2 through Jan. 31, 2026. After Jan. 31, normal tipping fees apply.
- Natural wreaths (without ornaments, lights, and decorations)
- These are considered yard waste and normal tipping fees apply.
- Alkaline, Lithium, and NiCd batteries (Lithium and NiCd batteries must be taped on both ends.)
- Accepted year-round at no charge.
- String lights and cords are accepted year-round at no charge as part of the Electronics Recycling Program.
- Electronics (complete and not broken into pieces) are accepted year-round at no charge as part of the Electronics Recycling Program.
- Plain/traditional wrapping paper and cards (no glossy, metallic, or glittery wrapping paper)
- Cardboard (Flatten cardboard boxes and remove tape. Do not leave Styrofoam in cardboard containers. No grease-soaked cardboard.)
- Textiles (clothing, shoes, pillows, sheets, towels, etc.) are accepted year-round at no charge.

Curbside Recycling Collection
Residents and property owners who pay for curbside recycling collection can place the following items in their recycling carts:
- Cardboard (Flatten cardboard boxes and remove tape. Do not leave Styrofoam in cardboard containers. No grease-soaked cardboard.)
- Plain/traditional wrapping paper and cards (no glossy, metallic, or glittery wrapping paper)
- Paper (Newspaper, craft paper, office paper, magazines, paper bags, paper cups and cartons, cereal and food boxes, junk mail, brochures, catalogs, and phone books. Shredded paper is not accepted.)
- Plastic cartons, bottles, tubs, jugs, jars, and containers (excluding motor oil or pesticide containers)
- Books (For hardcover books, remove and discard the spine and front and back covers.)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Metal cans or containers used for food (empty and rinse before recycling)

Reuse, Donate, or Trash
The following items should be repurposed or will need to be bagged and disposed of as household trash (normal tipping fees apply):
- Artificial Christmas trees
- Artificial wreaths and decorations
- Aluminum foil
- Bows and ribbons
- Decorative wrapping paper or gift bags (glossy, metallic, glittery, etc.)
- Plastic bags/wrap
- Packing peanuts and Styrofoam (commonly found in packaging for TVs and electronics)
- Toys
Site Closures
The Brunswick County Landfill and Convenience Centers will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. For more information about holiday closures or waste and recycling services in Brunswick County, visit BrunswickCountyNC.gov/holiday-schedule.
