PUBLIC NOTICE

NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER

Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a force main isolation valve failure near 6576 Summerfield Pl., Ocean Isle Beach, NC, on 01.09.2026. The sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) was discovered at approximately 11:57 a.m. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined valve leakage was the source of the discharge. County staff began repairing the valve at approximately 12:15 p.m. and completed the repair at 1:10 p.m. on 01.09.2026. It is believed approximately 4,444 gallons were discharged and reached a tributary to Saw Pit Swamp.   Downstream sampling and remediation of the affected site has been completed.  This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.

No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
