[ARCHIVED] Brunswick County invites residents to apply for openings on two boards and committees

MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County residents are encouraged to apply for potential appointment to the following county boards and committees.

Interested residents should apply by 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024. The Board of Commissioners will consider eligible applicants for appointment during the regular meeting on Monday, March 4.

Board of Equalization and Review

The Board of Equalization and Review currently has an opening for a representative from Electoral District 2, Electoral District 3, and Electoral District 4. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be from the specified electoral district, be a registered voter of Brunswick County, and have lived in Brunswick County for at least one (1) year prior to taking office. Applicants must also be of good moral character, own real property in Brunswick County, and have knowledge of real estate matters.

The board meets on an as-needed basis to carry out the duties prescribed in Article 21 of the Machinery Act as amended. Duties include hearing and reviewing taxpayer appeals of property listings and valuations placed on property subject to county taxes.

Fire Fee Committee

The Fire Fee Committee currently has an opening for a representative from Fire District 12 (Calabash) and Fire District 3 (Southport). Applicants must be in these fire districts to be eligible for consideration.

The committee meets once a year, usually in the spring, to set the fire fees. More information about fire fees in Brunswick County can be found at brunswickcountync.gov/fire-fees.

Applicants for any board or committee opportunity must be a resident in Brunswick County. Some boards may have specific eligibility or residency requirements based on your county commissioner district. Find your district on our online electoral districts map or on your voter registration card.
