Empowering Democracy: Voter Photo ID Summer Event Series Launches in Brunswick County

The Brunswick County Board of Elections proudly announces the launch of its Voter Photo ID Summer Event Series. Scheduled to kick off June 12, this countywide initiative aims to empower citizens by ensuring they have the necessary identification to exercise their right to vote.

With the Presidential Election approaching, the Voter Photo ID Summer Event Series seeks to address barriers to voting by providing individuals with the resources and support needed to obtain proper photo identification. Events will be held at county libraries and senior centers, ensuring accessibility for all.

“At the heart of democracy is the fundamental right to vote,” said Sara LaVere, Director of the Brunswick County Board of Elections, “Yet, for many individuals, obtaining a voter photo ID can be a daunting task. Our summer event series aims to break down those barriers and ensure that every eligible voter can make their voice heard.”

To obtain a voter photo ID at one of these events, individuals must be registered voters and residents of Brunswick County. No ID is required, but a form will need to be completed that requires the voter’s name, date of birth, and the last four digits of their Social Security number.

In addition to providing FREE Voter Photo IDs to Brunswick County registered voters, staff will provide voter registration, General Election voter guide, and other resources to assist voters in understanding their voting options.

We are kicking off this series at the Southwest Brunswick Branch Library on June 12.  While visiting us at this event, residents can peruse the Voices and Votes: Democracy in America exhibit. The Voices and Votes exhibit is a Smithsonian traveling exhibition that will be on display at the Southwest Brunswick Branch Library from June 3 to July 13. The Brunswick County Board of Elections will be providing some local voting artifacts to accompany the exhibit.
