[ARCHIVED] Brunswick County Urges Residents and Visitors to Stay Off Highways and Roads Due to Flooding

Severe Weather Notice (PNG)

PUBLIC NOTICE

As Potential Tropical Cyclone #8 continues to pass through southeast North Carolina, Brunswick County Emergency Management urges residents and travelers to stay off roads and highways. Significant flooding continues to impact several highways and major thoroughfares throughout the county.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Never drive, walk, or swim through flooded roadways or past barricades on roads. You never know how deep the water is or if the road has been washed away or weakened beneath the water. Remember, just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down and 12 inches of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.

Residents and visitors need to stay vigilant and follow these safety tips:

  • Have a plan. Know how you will keep yourself, your family, and your pets safe if flooding is forecast for your area. Make sure you consider your family’s unique needs, including anyone who needs medicine or medical equipment. Know how you’ll contact one another and reconnect if you aren’t together when flooding starts.

Learn more ways to stay safe before, during, and after flooding at Ready.gov/floods.

Brunswick County will share any updates on PTC #8 and its operations at brunswickcountync.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=253.
