MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. this Monday, Feb. 17, 2025.

Below is a quick recap of the actions taken on selected agenda items during the regular meeting. Residents can view the full agenda and accompanying reports and subscribe to agenda notifications on the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal.

Brunswick County live streamed this meeting via Zoom and will post the meeting replay on the County’s YouTube channel. Individuals are invited to share feedback on the live stream quality and experience to the Communications Department via email.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 17 at 6 p.m.

III. Adjustments/Approval of Agenda

The Board unanimously approved the agenda with the following adjustments:  

  • Added under Administrative Report Item No. 3 – Approval of TEGO Agreement and Signatory Authority (Information Technology).

V. Approval of Consent Agenda

The Board unanimously approved the consent agenda as presented. The full list of the approved consent agenda items is available on the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal

VII. Public Hearings

  1. Planning – UDO Text Amendment – Accessory Dwellings: The Board held a public hearing on the proposed text amendment; there was one request to speak. The Board made a motion to approve the proposed amendment to the Brunswick County Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to remove the minimum lot area requirement for accessory dwelling units (ADU). The motion was denied 3-2 (No: Forte, Thompson, Sykes; Yes: Cooke, Williams).

VIII. Administrative Report 

  1. Utilities – H2GO Request for Infrastructure Conveyance: The Board unanimously moved to table discussion on H2GO's request for the County to convey a 16-inch HDPE water line that crosses under US-17 and provide direction to staff. The Board will consider the request at a future meeting.
     
  2. Utilities – Succession Planning and Meter-Only Installation Backlog Reduction: The Board unanimously approved the additional staff, materials, and equipment to facilitate reduction of meter-only installation backlog and to provide a succession plan for key water treatment staff, and approved the creation of a meter box assembly replacement fee.
     
  3. Information Technology – Approval of TEGO Agreement and Signatory Authority: The Board unanimously approved IT’s Compute, Storage, and Virtualization Environment Upgrade proposal from TEGO Data Systems, LLC and granted signatory authority to County Manager Steve Stone. 

IX. Board Appointments

  1. Clerk to the Board – Shallotte Planning Board ETJ Position: At the request of the Town of Shallotte Board of Alderman, the Board unanimously approved appointing Amanda Dunn to the Town’s Planning Board as the Shallotte ETJ appointee.
     
  2. Clerk to the Board – Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC): The Board unanimously appointed Rachel Saunders to the vacated seat on JCPC.

Brunswick County Board of Commissioners holds regular meeting Monday, Feb. 17

Below are a few selected items from the agenda that the Board of Commissioners will discuss and take possible action on during the regular meeting.

VII. Public Hearings

Public Comment and Hearings

Most regular meetings include a time for public comment before the commissioners at the beginning of the meeting. Some meetings also have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic.

Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.

Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
