[ARCHIVED] Board of Commissioners receive FY26 recommended budget during regular meeting Monday, May 19

MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. this Monday, May 19, 2025. The public is welcome to attend in person or watch live online via Zoom (details below).

Staff will present the official FY26 recommended budget to the Commissioners during this meeting. The recommended budget can be viewed in the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal and at brunswickcountync.gov/budget.

Upcoming Commissioner Meetings Featuring FY26 Recommended Budget:

  • Monday, May 19 at 6 p.m.: Presentation of the FY26 Recommended Budget
  • Monday, June 2 at 1 p.m.: FY26 Special Budget Workshop (Tentative/If Needed)
  • Monday, June 2 at 3 p.m.: Public Hearing on the FY26 Recommended Budget
  • Monday, June 16 at 6 p.m.: Consider adoption of the FY26 Recommended Budget Ordinance, Capital Improvement Plan and Fees

VI. Presentations

  1. Cooperative Extension – Presentation of the 2025 Brunswick County 4-H Youth Council: Request the Board receive a presentation from Brunswick County 4-H regarding the inaugural cohort of the 2025 Brunswick County 4-H Youth Council.

VII. Administrative Report

  1. Administration – Lockwood Folly Dredging Project: Request the Board consider authorizing the transfer of $186,125 to the NC Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as the required local match for a project to dredge the navigation channel at the Lockwood Folly Inlet. 
     
  2. Administration – Recommended Budget Ordinance, Capital Improvement Plan, and Schedule of Fees for FY 2026: Request the Board receive the recommended budget ordinance, capital improvement plan, and schedule of fees for FY 2026, and schedule a public hearing on the matter for June 2, 2025, at 3 p.m.

VIII. Board Appointments

  1. Clerk to the Board – Planning Board / SUAMHC / Nursing Home & Adult Care Community and 2025 Annual Board Appointments: Request the Board appoint a vacated seat of the Planning Board as an at-large seat, a vacated seat as the Sheriff's appointee to the Substance Use, Addiction, & Mental Health Commission seat, appointment to the Nursing Home & Adult Care Home Community (Districts 4 and 5), and to appoint/re-appoint members to the various boards/committees/commissions the Commissioners are responsible for appointing.

Public Comment and Public Hearings

Most regular meetings include a time for public comment before the Commissioners at the beginning of the meeting. Some meetings also have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic.

Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.

Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
