The Brunswick County Board of Elections will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 3:30 pm via Zoom to consider reopening the candidate filing period for the Town of Belville Mayor contest.
This action is being taken in response to the death of Mayor Mike Allen, who had filed for re-election in the upcoming municipal election. Under N.C.G.S. § 163-294.4(b), if only two individuals filed for a contest and one dies before ballots are printed, the Board of Elections must reopen the filing period for five additional days.
If approved, the new filing period for the office of Town of Belville Mayor will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and end at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
