PUBLIC NOTICE
The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. this Monday, Sept. 15, 2025.
Below is a quick recap of the actions taken on selected agenda items during the regular meeting. Residents can view the full agenda and accompanying reports and subscribe to agenda notifications on the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal.
Brunswick County live streamed this meeting via Zoom and will post the meeting replay on the County’s YouTube channel. Individuals are invited to share feedback on the live stream quality and experience to the Communications Department via email.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m.

III. Adjustments/Approval of Agenda
The Board unanimously approved the agenda as amended:
- Moved the Presentation item titled Clerk to the Board – Presentation Honoring the South Brunswick (Southport/Oak Island All Stars) Dixie Youth Baseball Division 2 Majors World Series Championship to be heard before Public Comment. There was no vote taken during the presentation.
V. Approval of Consent Agenda
The Board unanimously approved the consent agenda as presented. The full list of the approved consent agenda items is available on the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal.
VI. Presentations
- Information Technology – NCLGISA Award Presentation to Brunswick County IT Department: The Board received a presentation of the NCLGISA Above and Beyond Award to the Brunswick County IT Department. No vote was taken.
VII. Public Hearings
- Planning – Long Shore Road Closing: The Board held a public hearing on a proposed resolution to close a small portion of Long Shore Road. Only the applicant requested to speak at the public hearing. The Board unanimously adopted the resolution.
VIII. Administrative Report
- Administration – Brunswick Center at Waccamaw MOU: The Board unanimously approved and executed the Brunswick Center at Waccamaw Memorandum of Understanding between Brunswick County and Brunswick Senior Resources Inc., regarding the operation and management of the county-owned facility located at 5841 Waccamaw School Road, NW, in Ash.
- Administration – Resolutions for General Obligation School Bond Referendum Inclusion on the March 2026 Ballot: The Board received a presentation from Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Dale Cole on a proposed school bond referendum for the Spring 2026 ballot. The Board was asked to consider adopting the required resolutions to issue $409.8 million in school General Obligation Bonds proposed for constructing, improving, and renovating school facilities, directing the publication of notice of intention to apply to the Local Government Commission (LGC) for approval of bonds, authorizing the Finance Director to apply and submit to the LGC for approval of the proposed General Obligation Bond financing, and making certain statements of fact concerning proposed bond issue. The Board unanimously moved to table the item until the next meeting on Oct. 6, 2025, to allow the Board of Education an opportunity to present the proposed school bond referendum in their public meeting and to allow more time for BCS staff to address the Commissioners’ questions. The Board then unanimously moved to reconsider the previous action to table the item to the Oct. 6 meeting and instead table it to a different future meeting (date to be determined) to provide BCS staff and the Board of Education with extended time to research and provide more information to the Board.
- Administration – Stormwater Utility Feasibility Study: The Board unanimously authorized staff to prepare and issue a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from qualified firms to conduct a feasibility study for a potential stormwater utility.
IX. Other Business / Informal Discussion
- The Commissioners remarked on the passing of former County Commissioner Mr. Tom Rabon, Sr. and extended their condolences to his family and loved ones.
- Commissioner Randy Thompson reminded the Commissioners and audience that the open house and public hearing for the proposed Carolina Bays Parkway Extension project would be on Monday, Sept. 29 and that the Board should wait to discuss and consider any resolutions on the proposed project until after the public has a chance to participate in those input opportunities. Public Comment and Public Hearings
Most regular meetings include a time for public comment before the Commissioners at the beginning of the meeting. Some meetings also have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic.
Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.
Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
