[ARCHIVED] Tropical Weather Update from the National Weather Service (Sept. 24, 2025)

Severe Weather Notice (PNG)

NWS Update as of Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has provided the following update on two potential tropical weather systems: AL93 and AL94. Community members in Brunswick County and the surrounding areas should stay alert and monitor these systems in the event they further develop and require protective actions.

This is an evolving event and weather forecasts are subject to change. Remain alert for updates from the NWS-Wilmington at weather.gov/ilm and find the latest weather information at weather.gov/ilm/briefing and weather.gov/ilm/tropical

Overview

  • AL93 (eastern system) is likely to become a tropical depression or storm later today north of the Lesser Antilles, remaining over the western Atlantic through early next week.
  • AL94 (western system) is likely to become a tropical depression by the weekend in the vicinity of the Bahamas.

Timing

  • Early to mid-next week
  • Progression of the systems has slowed

Hazards & Impacts

  • As AL93 and AL94 potentially develop, their long period swells could bring an increased risk of dangerous, life-threatening ripcurrents to the Carolina coast
  • AL93 may be the stronger of the two storms as it is expected to develop sooner, leading to more powerful swells
  • More uncertainty regarding the development of AL94 will warrant monitoring into next week

Additional Information

  • Confidence: Potential interactions between the systems is leading to higher uncertainty than usual with the long-range track and intensity forecasts
