[ARCHIVED] Brunswick Nature Park closed until further notice due to fire

MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick Nature Park (2601 River Road SE, Winnabow) is closed to the public until further notice due to a reported wildfire within the park. The North Carolina Forest Service and local firefighters are currently responding to the incident.

There are no reported impacts to park visitors. Law enforcement is on site to check for any remaining visitors.

Current reports indicate that the fire is affecting approximately 10 acres of park property. Affected areas within Brunswick Nature Park are not near heavily populated areas. Individuals are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

Brunswick County Parks and Recreation staff discovered the fire at 1:23 p.m. on February 28, 2024. The cause of the fire and potential damages are not verified at this time. There are no reports of structures on park property being affected. The Forest Service will investigate following containment of the fire.

County officials will keep the park closed until further notice.

The public is reminded to keep drones away from wildfires. While drones provide unique opportunities for aerial video and imagery of wildfire activity, they are unauthorized. Flying a drone near or around a wildfire compromises the safety of pilots and interferes with firefighting efforts.
