Here’s what you missed at the Oct. 3 Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting

BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for its regular meeting this Monday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.

III. Adjustments/Approval of Agenda

The Board of Commissioners unanimously moved to add the following items to the agenda and approved the agenda as amended.

  • Add a discussion about storm debris under Other Business/Informal Discussion
  • Add a closed session to discuss economic development under Closed Session
VI. Public Hearing
  1. Tax Administration – Schedule of Values for 2023 Revaluation: The Board held a public hearing required for the adoption of the 2023 schedule of values. There were two requests to speak during the hearing. The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved to consider adopting the schedule of values during the next board meeting scheduled for Oct. 17, 2022, at 6 p.m.
VII. Administrative Report
  1. Administration – Fiscal Year-End June 30, 2022, County Manager’s Report and Capital Project Funding: The Board of Commissioners received information for Fiscal Year-End June 30, 2022 from County Manager Steve Stone. The Board of Commissioners unanimously moved to table discussion on the proposed appropriation of fund balance for pay-go parks projects for discussion and consideration at the Oct. 17 regular meeting. The Board unanimously approved the appropriation of fund balance to pay-go future projects planned in the five Capital Improvement Plan, for repair and maintenance projects, and for an equipment purchase.
  2. Utilities – Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant ARPA Funds: The Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized the use of $4,942,733 in County ARPA funds for the design and land purchase associated with the rehabilitation and expansion of the Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant.
VIII. Other Business/Informal Discussion
  • Following Hurricane Ian, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a recommendation to hold a free clean up week for storm-related construction and demolition debris and vegetative/yard debris at the Brunswick County Landfill in Bolivia beginning Monday, Oct. 10 through Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022. This action does not apply to county convenience centers. Full details are at brunswickcountync.gov/ian.

BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet for its regular meeting this Monday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.

The commissioners’ chambers are on the first floor of the David R. Sandifer Administration Building at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia (28422).

Below are a few selected items from the agenda that the Board of Commissioners will discuss and take possible action on during the regular meeting.

VI. Public Hearing
  1. Tax Administration – Schedule of Values for 2023 Revaluation: Request that the Board hold a public hearing required for the adoption of the 2023 schedule of values. Following the public hearing, it is requested that the Board of Commissioners schedule a meeting to adopt the schedule of values. As this meeting should occur no sooner than seven days after the public hearing, it is suggested that it be scheduled for Oct. 17, 2022, at 6 p.m.
VII. Administrative Report
  1. Administration – Fiscal Year-End June 30, 2022, County Manager’s Report and Capital Project Funding: Request that the Board of Commissioners receive information for Fiscal Year-End June 30, 2022, and to consider an appropriation of fund balance to pay-go future projects planned in the five Capital Improvement Plan, for repair and maintenance projects, for parks improvements, and for an equipment purchase.
  2. Utilities – Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant ARPA Funds: Request that the Board of Commissioners authorize the use of $4,942,733 in County ARPA funds for the design and land purchase associated with the rehabilitation and expansion of the Ocean Isle Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Additionally, some meetings have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic. Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.

Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
