Here’s what you missed at the Sept. 19 Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting

BOLIVIA, N.C. – The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for its regular meeting this Monday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.

VI. Presentation
- Governing Board – Constitution Week Resolution: The Board unanimously approved the resolution honoring Constitution Week as Sept. 17-23, 2022.
- Health Services – Brunswick County Substance Use and Addiction Commission: Members of the Brunswick County Substance Use and Addiction Commission presented the latest local and state data and trends of substance misuse to the Board of Commissioners. The data report is available online. No action was taken. The commission members also provided an update on ongoing initiatives in the community to educate younger individuals and families about substance misuse.
- Tax Administration – Presentation of Schedule of Values for 2023 and Schedule a Public Hearing: The Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the schedule of values as outlined in North Carolina General Statute 105-317, with a public hearing for the schedule of values to be advertised for Oct. 3, 2022, at 3 p.m. The schedule is available to the public and a link is posted on the county webpage.
VII. Public Hearing
- Economic Development: The Board of Commissioners conducted a public hearing to receive comments regarding a proposed economic development incentive from Brunswick County in the amount of $270,000 to Precision Swiss Products, Inc. There were no requests to comment during the public hearing. Following the public hearing, the Board unanimously approved the incentive agreement.
VIII. Administrative Report
- Utilities – Distribution Crew Request: The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved additional staff, materials, and equipment, as well as explore the use of contractors, for valve operation and water quality testing to facilitate the construction of current and upcoming new sub-division projects, water line relocation, and new construction projects; hydrant testing; tap installation; and the installation of an increased number of residential and irrigation meters.

VIII. Administrative Report

Additionally, some meetings have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic. Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.
Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
