The 2022 holiday season lights up on Friday, December 2nd at 6:00 p.m. with the 27th Annual Spirit of Calabash Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting. Located in downtown Calabash at Callahan’s of Calabash, the Spirit of Calabash Parade strolls down Beach Drive to River Road and is full of colorful and entertaining groups. Also enjoy community caroling, hot cocoa, children’s letter writing and reindeer food stations! Santa will be transported to the event by the Calabash Fire Department. The 2022 Christmas by the Sea Parade in Oak Island will be held on Saturday, December 3rd. The parade showcases the businesses and organizations in the community. The hometown feel of the parade makes it a favorite event of locals, second homeowners and visitors. The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Town of Oak Island have organized the Christmas By The Sea parade for over 35 years. The parade steps off at 2:00 p.m. beginning on East Oak Island Drive in front of Town Hall and making it’s way eastward, ending at McGlamery Street. As always, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be the final float at the end of the parade waving to children and the young at heart as they drive by.

Festival of Trees is an exciting opportunity to see the Museum decorated in beautiful holiday decor, as well as a fundraiser for the Museum of Coastal Carolina, Ingram Planetarium, and individual tree sponsors. The museum raises funds through admission to the festival and selling votes for favorite tree. Sponsors accrue funds through a silent auction for each tree’s lights and decorations.

The 3rd Annual Festival of Trees opens on Thursday, Nov 10 and closes on Saturday, Dec 31, 2022. During that time the Festival will be open to the public on Thursday thru Saturday during regular open hours. Additional public hours from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm will be offered on the following Sundays: Nov 13, 20, and 27 as well as Dec 4, 11, and 18.

HoliDAY at the Museum is on Friday, Nov 25.  This is a family friendly event including all day activities for children.

The boat parade starts at 5:30 in front of Inlet View Bar & Grill and proceeds down the Intracoastal Waterway to the commercial canal in front of Sharky’s Restaurant where the judging will take place. The boats will be all “decked out” for Christmas!

As always there will then be a gi-normous Christmas Party in the main dining room (and all over Sharky’s) with a night of music (2 local bands: Chip & The Old Blocks and The Stone Cold Blues Band) and general Merry Making!

There will be items for auction. T- shirts & New Trucker Hats will be available. Boat entries require a $30.00 donation. All of this will benefit the Brunswick Family Assistance Program so come enjoy the Ocean Isle Beach Flotilla & Party with your friends for a great cause!

More than 50 volunteers have contributed to making two community-made quilts, which will be raffled off during this event. The quilt blocks are based on illustrations from Patt Carney’s two coloring books Color Me Southport and Color Me Southport Two.

Returning after a two-year hiatus, Southport Historical Society’s Annual Christmas Tour of Homes is scheduled for 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, December 10. Tickets are needed to join this tour and can be purchased for $20 online through the Southport Historical Society’s website starting on November 21st as well as in-person at Ricky Evans Art Gallery, Ft. For the 28th year, the Southport Winterfest Flotilla, sponsored by Cape Fear Yacht Club, Downtown Southport, Inc., and the City of Southport will illuminate the waterfront. Bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the beauty of Christmas lights bouncing off the water on Saturday, December 10, at 7 p.m. at the Southport Waterfront. The flotilla route will showcase vessels from Old American Fish to Marker 19 near the Southport River Hotel, then return to Old American Fish and the Yacht Basin. Students from the Southport Elementary School Art Program will be judging the sail, power, and paddle boats of the flotilla. Come on down to the waterfront and support all the flotilla participants and enjoy the celebration.

Join us for an evening of Christmas festivities at the Varnamtown Christmas Tree Lighting! Saturday, December 3 at Varnamtown Town Hall at 5:30pm (tree will be lit at 6pm). Come and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, Christmas music, and caroling around the tree.

There will be no parking at the Town Hall. Look for shuttle service and parking at the Dixon Chapel Church parking lot (185 Varnamtown Road) and a vacant lot just past the Town Hall on the right. If you have someone who is in a wheelchair, you will be able to stop at the Town Hall and unload your passenger, at which time you will need to go to one of the shuttle areas, park, and return on shuttle. Shuttle service will run from 5pm until 5:55pm for arrivals. As the event winds down, shuttle service will resume.

Join us this holiday season at Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site from 1:00pm to 5:30 pm on Sunday, December 11, as we explore how the American colonists celebrated Christmas. Costumed interpreters will provide guided tours of St. Philips Anglican Church throughout the afternoon. During the program, you can enjoy 18th century inspired refreshments, participate in traditional games, or try your hand at 18th century themed crafts. The highlight of the evening will be an authentic period candlelit service in the ruins of St. Philips, followed by the firing of the Christmas Gun.

The service will begin promptly at 5:00pm and will conclude by 5:30pm.

There is a $5 charge/parking fee per vehicle. We ask for visitors to please pay with cash.
