Volunteer resources and contacts to help post-Hurricane Dorian

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Emergency Services coordinates offers for donations and volunteer assistance with the Brunswick County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD).

Questions about who to contact for help, how to volunteer or how to donate items? Contact Emergency Services Volunteer and Nonprofit Coordinator Leslie Stanley for direction to the appropriate VOAD agency or county department based on your needs.

A list of VOAD partner organizations that may be able to assist residents with unmet and construction needs post-Hurricane Dorian is available at https://www.brunswickcountync.gov/voad/

Based on the level of impact to Brunswick County, VOAD anticipates that its available resources are enough to serve the areas affected by Hurricane Dorian. VOAD is thankful to everyone who has reached out to offer help.

Brunswick County GenX Test Results

Brunswick County has received additional results of testing for GenX in the water supply.

Samples taken on Aug. 17 revealed levels of 20.4 parts per trillion in the Northwest Water Treatment Plant’s raw water source, and 20.5 parts per trillion in the finished water source.

Samples taken on Aug. 24 revealed levels of 18.2 parts per trillion in the Northwest Water Treatment Plant’s raw water source, and 16.6 parts per trillion in the finished water source.

Samples taken on Aug. 31 revealed levels of 24.3 parts per trillion in the Northwest Water Treatment Plant’s raw water source, and 22.9 parts per trillion in the finished water source.

Samples taken on Sept. 7 revealed levels of 26.8 parts per trillion in the Northwest Water Treatment Plant’s raw water source, and 25.9 parts per trillion in the finished water source.

NC Health and Human Services has established the health goal for exposure to GenX in drinking water at 140 nanograms per liter (also referred to as parts per trillion).
