Overdose Awareness Day Event

Saturday, August 31, 2024

You are invited to participate in the Brunswick County Overdose Awareness Day Event on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Government Center in Bolivia.

This event is an opportunity for community members to gather in a safe environment to:

  • collectively mourn and remember loved ones who have been lost due to drug overdose. 
  • connect with peers and community organizations to raise awareness about overdose prevention strategies in Brunswick County.

When: Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Where: Lisa M. Thompson Walking Trail, Brunswick County Government Center, 60 Government Center Drive, Bolivia, NC 28422 (Parking available in front of the Brunswick County Social Services Building)

What to Expect: Brunswick County community members and partners are invited to attend a dedication ceremony in honor of those lost to drug overdose. The event will feature a memorial tree planting and interactive rock garden activity, as well as remarks and testimonials from special guest speakers.

International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.

  • The campaign raises awareness of overdose, which is one of the world’s worst public health crises and stimulates action and discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy.
  • The campaign also acknowledges the profound grief felt by families and friends whose loved ones have died or suffered permanent injury from a drug overdose.
  • International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message about the tragedy of drug overdose death and that drug overdose is preventable
