Brunswick County Parks and Recreation receives award for community impact
Brunswick County’s Parks and Recreation department recently received the United States Tennis Association (USTA) North Carolina 2022 Outstanding Parks & Recreation Department award. USTA North Carolina annually honors those who have created outstanding tennis programs supported by local parks and recreation departments. This award is presented to the parks and recreation department that made the greatest impact in its community during the past year through programming, events, and partnerships.
Brunswick County welcomes David Howard as new Health Services Director
Brunswick County is pleased to welcome David Howard as the next director of its Health Services department this month. Howard has nearly 22 years of experience in the health field within the Cape Fear Region and across North Carolina, most recently as the public health director for New Hanover County. As director, Howard will oversee the County’s Public Health, Environmental Health, and WIC/Nutrition Services operations. He takes the helm of the department following the retirement of previous director Cris Harrelson in November 2022. His first day is Monday, Jan. 23, 2023.

NCDOT: Maintenance Work to Close Lanes in Shallotte
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close lanes of U.S. 17 Business in each direction for one week starting on Thursday. Contract crews will close the lanes to improve the road approaching and departing a bridge on Main Street (U.S. 17B) over the Shallotte River.
