Brunswick County Health Services reminds public of upcoming flu shot and COVID-19 booster clinics this October

MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – For the remainder of October, Brunswick County Health Services is offering three pop-up flu shot clinics at Town Creek Park Community Building in Winnabow, one clinic at Waccamaw Park Community Building in Ash, and one clinic at Indian Trail Meeting Hall in Southport for anyone aged 6 months and up.

Annual flu vaccinations are recommended for everyone six months of age and older. Children younger than five years, adults 65 years and older, pregnant women, and people with underlying medical conditions are all at an increased risk of severe illness or complications from the flu.

In addition to the flu vaccines, Health Services will also offer the updated COVID-19 boosters designed specifically to target the latest variants. People 12 years and older should get the updated COVID-19 booster two months after they finish their primary series or from their last monovalent booster dose. For more information about the updated booster, you can visit the CDCFDA, or NCDHHS websites.

The booster, like all COVID-19 vaccines, is safe to get alongside the annual flu vaccine. People should get their flu vaccine as early as possible to build up immunity before the virus becomes widespread in late fall and winter.

Flu and COVID-19 booster vaccinations will take place inside Town Creek Park Community Building on Oct. 10, Oct. 17, and Oct. 24, inside Waccamaw Park Community Building on Oct. 26, and inside Indian Trail Meeting Hall on Oct. 28. Appointments are not required.

The vaccination clinics follow the state guidelines for a clinical setting and require everyone to wear masks.

*Clinic staff will accommodate requests to vaccinate individuals from their vehicles for anyone who may have mobility issues or prefers not to enter the building for any reason.

The updated COVID-19 boosters are free to everyone regardless of whether they have insurance. Regular flu shots are $45 and Senior flu shots (recommended for those aged 65 years or older) are $91. Health Services accepts cash, checks, Medicaid, Medicare, and most major insurance. If you are unsure about your insurance, call 910.253.2354 for assistance.

You will need to bring a copy of your photo ID and insurance cards, if available. If you are receiving a COVID-19 booster, you will need to bring your COVID-19 vaccine records (vaccine cards).
