Update: Section of Old Ocean Highway, northern entrance to Brunswick County Complex will close April 13 for DOT project
BOLIVIA, N.C. – The North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) has moved its construction start date for a culvert replacement project along a section of Old Ocean Highway in Bolivia forward to Monday, April 13; the original start date was reported as Monday, April 6.
Visitors to the Brunswick County Government Complex in Bolivia might need to plan to use a detour and add some additional travel time for at least three weeks if traveling to the complex beginning April 13. During construction, the northern entrance to the complex and a section of Old Ocean Highway between the entrance and Midway Road will close to traffic in both directions.
If you typically enter and exit the county complex from the north side, consider using one of these roads as detours via Old Ocean Highway (Highway 17):
- Galloway Road NE off of Old Ocean Highway
- Randolphville Road NE off of Old Ocean Highway
- Gilbert Road off of Midway Road
Brunswick County GIS has created a map showing the closure area and the roads for detour.
DOT will also place electronic signage in the surrounding area to alert drivers to the road closure.
The closure is anticipated to last at least three weeks to replace a culvert that was damaged during Hurricane Florence. The project will replace the current pipe with two 60-inch pipes for improved drainage flow under Old Ocean Highway.
The County will post any updates on the project and related closures at https://www.brunswickcountync.gov/dotculvertreplacementapril2020
