Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
Overview
Welcome to Brunswick County Emergency Medical Services (EMS). We provide emergency medical responses to the residents and visitors of Brunswick County. We also offer life-saving community education like Hands Only CPR, What to Do Before the Ambulance Arrives as well as "Stop the Bleed" programs.
Make The Right Call
When you call 911 for a medical emergency, time is of the essence for Brunswick County's EMS team. That is why it is important to call only in emergencies and look for other options when a health issue does not require immediate attention.
Call 911 when an injury or illness could cost someone's life or ability to function without rapid emergency medical intervention. If you are not sure if you need urgent or emergency care, go to the closest emergency room or call 911.
Examples of Situations That Require Emergency Medical Attention
- Burns
- Chest pain or pressure
- Stroke symptoms
- Convulsions or seizures
- Difficulty breathing
- Head, neck, or back injury
- Limb loss
- Poisoning
- Severe bleeding
- Unconsciousness
Brunswick County EMS works closely with the 911 communications center, local hospitals, and other emergency responders to ensure trained professionals are available when medical emergencies happen. But when EMS personnel are tied up with non-emergency calls, this becomes much more challenging.
Options You Can Use for a Non-Emergency Health Issue
- Contact your doctor for an appointment or go to an urgent care clinic
- Self-care for minor, not urgent needs at home when possible
- Use alternate transportation to go to a hospital emergency room
