Brunswick County invites residents to apply for opening on Board of Equalization and Review

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County is encouraging residents who live in certain electoral districts to apply to serve on the Board of Equalization and Review.
The board currently has an opening for a representative from Electoral District 1. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be from the specified electoral district, be a registered voter of Brunswick County, and have lived in Brunswick County for at least one (1) year prior to taking office. Applicants must also be of good moral character, own real property in Brunswick County, and have knowledge of real estate matters.
The board meets on an as-needed basis to carry out the duties prescribed in Article 21 of the Machinery Act as amended. Duties include hearing and reviewing taxpayer appeals of property listings and valuations placed on property subject to county taxes.
Interested residents should apply as soon as possible. The appointee would serve on the board until June 30, 2023, and would have a chance to be re-appointed by the Board of Commissioners in June.
