A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coastal waters of Brunswick County. A Flood Watch is in effect for Brunswick County

Most Brunswick County operations and services will continue as usual at this time except for the following changes:

  • Brunswick County Parks will close early at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22
  • All Brunswick County Parks and Recreation youth events are canceled for the weekend (Sept. 23-24)

About the Substance Use & Addiction Commission

Mission

Serves in an advisory capacity to make recommendations regarding the substance use and addiction program needs of Brunswick County.

Meets on the first Thursday of the month at 5:00 p.m. in the Boardroom of the Health Services Building (Building A).

Roles

The roles of the Commission members as approved by the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners are to:

  1. Increase public awareness of substance abuse and addiction
  2. Engage community members on a large scale
  3. Reduce stigma surrounding addiction and mental health
  4. Assess the availability and accessibility of mental health, drug addiction treatment services, and overdose reversal throughout the county, and identify areas that may be underserved
  5. Support efforts to expand access to new, evidence- based treatment to underserved areas
  6. Support efforts to divert non-violent drug offenders to recovery and treatment in lieu of incarceration
