Next free Brunswick County Household Hazardous Waste collection days are Oct. 20 and Nov. 17

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County reminds property owners and residents that they can dispose of household hazardous waste at the Brunswick County Landfill free of charge every third Thursday of the month (excluding holidays or inclement weather). The next free collection days are Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022, and Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Participants must show proof of Brunswick County property ownership or residency to drop off items during the event.
Some items that are accepted include ammonia, bleach, aerosols, lighter fluid, oil-based paints, pesticides, herbicides, propane tanks (grill or smaller), household batteries, pool/spa chemicals, disinfectants, and fire extinguishers.

All items must be labeled. The staff onsite reserve the right to refuse any item brought to the event.
Electronics, latex paints, fluorescent bulbs, automotive fluids, clothing, and smoke detectors are not included in the household hazardous waste collection; however, they are recycled at the Brunswick County Landfill year-round for free.
The following materials cannot be accepted: business or commercial waste, biological or infectious waste, hypodermic needles or syringes, radioactive waste, prescription medicine, explosives, ammunition, shock-sensitive items (crystallized ethers, picric acids, etc.), and unknown items.
