Brunswick County to reopen to public on delayed schedule Friday, Sept. 20

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Government will reopen to the public on a delayed schedule Friday, Sept. 20 following closures due to Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries, health clinic, social services, and other facilities will open at 10 a.m., with a few exceptions for parks and the Landfill, which will open on their normal schedules (see details below). 

  • Brunswick County Parks have already reopened to the public across the county, with the exception of Brunswick Nature Park, which remains closed. Parks will continue to open on their normal schedules Friday, Sept. 20.
  • All Brunswick County Flag Football, Future Stars Cheer, Youth Football, Youth Cheer, and Youth Soccer games scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21 have been canceled. We hope to see everyone back on the field next Saturday, Sept. 28.
  • Brunswick County Library is not charging fines for materials due this week. The Library will be fine-free through Monday, Sept. 23. Please stay safe and keep your library materials safe as well.
  • The Brunswick County Landfill already reopened on its normal schedule on Thursday, Sept. 19 and will continue to operate on normal schedules Friday. The Free Cleanup Week at the Landfill was rescheduled and began Sept. 19 and will extend into next week through Saturday, Sept. 28 to allow residents additional time to benefit from this service following the storm.
  • Monday AND Tuesday curbside trash and recycling customers that missed service will receive pick-up Saturday, Sept. 21. Customers with missed service can also contact GFL Environmental now to see if their cart can be collected earlier than Saturday. If you have any questions regarding Monday and Tuesday collections, please contact GFL at 910.253.4177. GFL Environmental does not anticipate any issues with collections for remaining collection days at this time. 
  • The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting that was to be held on Sept. 16, 2024, has been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Chambers on the first floor of the David R. Sandifer Administration Building at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia (28422).

Brunswick County Emergency Management asks residents and visitors to stay vigilant and continue to avoid any flooded or barricaded roads and areas. Brunswick County has an online map of current road conditions and closures in real time. Before you leave, also check for active road incidents on North Carolina Department of Transportation's DriveNC.gov map (using the Potential Tropical Cyclone filter), the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, NC’s social media pages and mobile app, and local municipal pages.

Brunswick County remains under a state of emergency as the County continues to work through response and recovery efforts following the storm. The Brunswick County Emergency Operations Center is currently at Level 2 (Partial Activation), with essential public safety and response staff monitoring and responding to the storm.

Brunswick County remains closed Thurs., Sept. 19, public safety staff continue to respond to PTC #8

MEDIA RELEASE

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Government will remain closed to the public Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, due to severe weather impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries, and other facilities will reopen on their regular schedules Friday, Sept. 20 unless additional closures or schedule changes become necessary.

Public safety and essential personnel continue to work through the day and night to help our community recover from the storm. Community members with questions related to PTC #8 can call our Call Center at 910-253-5383.  

Brunswick County Parks are now open across the county, with the exception of Leland Community Park, Town Creek District Park, and Brunswick Nature Park.

Please note that all Brunswick County Flag Football, Future Stars Cheer, Youth Football, Youth Cheer, and Youth Soccer games scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21 have been cancelled. We hope to see everyone back on the field next Saturday, Sept. 28.

GFL Environmental was not able to collect curbside trash and recycling carts on Monday or Tuesday due to flooding and poor road conditions. Monday AND Tuesday curbside trash and recycling customers will now receive pick-up Saturday, Sept. 21. Customers with missed service can also contact GFL Environmental now to see if their cart can be collected earlier than Saturday by calling 910.253.4177.

The Brunswick County Landfill will reopen on its normal schedule beginning Thursday, Sept. 19. The Free Cleanup Week at the Brunswick County Landfill will begin on Thursday, Sept. 19 and will be extended through Saturday, Sept. 28 to allow residents additional time to benefit from this service following the storm. The convenience centers will follow their normal schedules.

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Government will remain closed to the public Wednesday, Sept. 18 due to severe weather impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries, parks, and other facilities will reopen on their regular schedules Thursday, Sept. 19 unless additional closures or schedule changes become necessary. 

Essential public safety staff will continue to monitor and respond to community needs and safety in the aftermath of the storm. 

GFL Environmental was not able to collect curbside trash and recycling carts on Monday or Tuesday due to flooding and poor road conditions. Monday AND Tuesday curbside trash and recycling customers will now receive pick-up Saturday, Sept. 21. 

GFL Environmental still plans to collect curbside trash and recycling carts for Wednesday customers, but GFL will assess conditions for all remaining collection days based on conditions at the time. Those with questions about their cart collections should contact GFL Environmental at 910.253.4177.

The Landfill will remain closed on Wednesday, Sept. 18 and staff will continue to assess conditions to determine when the Landfill can reopen. The current Free Cleanup Week at the Landfill is scheduled through Saturday, Sept. 21; we will announce any changes to this event’s current schedule should they occur. Convenience centers will still open on their normal schedules Wednesday.

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Government will remain closed to the public Tuesday, Sept. 17 due to severe weather impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries, parks, and other facilities will reopen on their regular schedules Wednesday, Sept. 18 unless additional closures or schedule changes become necessary. 

Essential public safety staff will continue to monitor and respond to community needs and safety through the duration and aftermath of the storm. A curfew is currently in effect until Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 a.m. for the unincorporated areas of the county.

GFL Environmental still plans to collect curbside trash and recycling carts for Tuesday customers, but this plan may change based on road conditions remaining on Tuesday. Monday curbside trash and recycling customers will now receive pick-up Saturday, Sept. 21. The Brunswick County Landfill’s operations will be assessed later based on conditions. Those with questions about their cart collections should contact GFL Environmental at 910.253.4177.

Brunswick County Government closed Monday, Sept. 16, Board of Commissioners Meeting Canceled

BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Government will be closed effective immediately Monday, Sept. 16 due to severe weather impacts from Potential Tropical Cyclone #8. All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries, parks, and other facilities will reopen on their regular schedules Tuesday, Sept. 17 unless additional closures or schedule changes become necessary. 

The Sept. 16 Brunswick County Board of Commissioners meeting is also canceled and will tentatively be rescheduled for a later date to be determined. 

The Brunswick County Landfill and Convenience Centers are also closed Monday. Monday curbside trash and recycling customers will now receive pick-up Saturday, Sept. 21. Those with questions about their cart collections should contact GFL Environmental at 910.253.4177.

Essential public safety staff will continue to monitor and respond to community needs and safety throughout the duration of the storm.
