PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a break in a sewer main near 7588 Wallace Place SW, Sunset Beach, NC, on December 8th, 2025. The sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) was discovered at approximately 11:00 a.m. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the source of the discharge was a 1.5-inch valve and nipple failure on a low-pressure sewer line. County staff began repairing the section of line at approximately 12:30 p.m. and completed the repair at 2:30 p.m. on December 8th, 2025. It is believed approximately 19,641 gallons were discharged and a portion (11,641 gallons) reached an unnamed tributary to Calabash Creek, near intersection of Montclair and Wallace Place SW, in the Sea Trail Subdivision. Downstream sampling and remediation of the affected site has been completed. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
