Zoning Board of Adjustment

Brunswick County Zoning Board of Adjustment

The Planning Department supports and facilitates the Brunswick County Zoning Board of Adjustment.  The Zoning Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board appointed by the Brunswick County Commissioners. A quasi-judicial hearing is similar to a court hearing in that witnesses are sworn in and decisions are based on evidence and factual testimony rather than opinions. The Board’s responsibilities include granting variances, granting Special Use Permits (SUP), zoning vested rights, hearing of administrative decisions, interpretation of zoning boundary lines and hearing administrative decisions and hearing appeals of decision/interpretations made by zoning administrators.

The Zoning Board of Adjustments meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Brunswick County Commissioners’ Chambers in the David R. Sandifer Administration Building. For information on agendas and minutes view the Zoning Board of Adjustment Agendas & Minutes.
