Brunswick County Coronavirus Update (April 8, 2020)

Key Points

  • As of April 8, there are 29 positive cases of COVID-19, 87 pending test results and 734 confirmed negative test results, totaling 850 tests administered so far. Of the 29 positive cases, 16 are male and 13 are female; 18 are considered recovered cases and one is a death associated to COVID-19.
  • Do not travel or encourage others to travel to and from Brunswick County during Easter weekend or the rest of April to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in our county and state.
  • If you recently traveled to Brunswick County from another country, another state, or even another county in North Carolina, you need to take responsible, proactive measures to quarantine yourself and any fellow travelers now.
  • Brunswick County government offices are closed this Friday to observe Good Friday. Friday trash and recycling collection will take place as usual.
  • See a full list of food resources and programs available to those who need assistance in the full update (contact and/or applications/qualifications might be necessary).
  • Stay at home unless you are visiting an essential service or operation (like visiting the grocery store, pharmacy, medical office, or work), exercising outdoors or helping a family member.

Setback Certification Requirements

Effective July 1st, 2018, a foundation survey is required to certify that building setback requirements are met for residential homes, additions, and accessory structures. An accessory structure includes carports, sheds, garages, workshops, gazebos, pool houses, and cabanas. The foundation survey must be signed and sealed by a registered Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)* and submitted to the Planning Department after the Foundation Inspection for site-built homes and accessory structures. The foundation survey must be submitted to the Planning Department prior to the Set-Up Inspection for mobile homes. Survey maps MUST show the following:

  • Proposed Structures
  • Any existing structures
  • Any other encumbrances associated with the property
  • Property Lines
  • Structure’s Distance from Property Lines
  • Easements
  • Setback Lines
SETBACK CERTIFICATION NOT REQUIRED
  • Structures located more than 50 feet from a property line
  • Fences and walls
  • Uncovered Patios and Decks
  • Accessory Structures that are no more than 12 feet in any dimension
  • Bona Fide Farm Structures
  • Swimming Pools
  • Mobile Homes in Mobile Home Parks
  • Signs
  • Generators
Failure to submit the survey will delay your project and prohibit future building inspections.

*In lieu of a survey map, a signed and sealed letter from a PLS that identifies the property and structure certifying that the structure meets or exceeds the building setback requirements for the zoning district may be submitted.
