Notice of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a sanitary sewer force main located near 483 Deer Path Calabash, NC, on July 31, 2020. The sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) was discovered at approximately 7:00 a.m. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined that the 4” sewer force main was leaking through a crack in the 90-degree elbow. County staff began repairing the force main at approximately 10:00 a.m. and completed the repair at 1:30 p.m. on July 31, 2020. It is believed approximately 4,500 gallons reached a tributary of Persimmon Swamp. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.C.

No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
