PUBLIC NOTICE: NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater on 1/21/2023 due to a failure of a 6” force main (FM) near the intersection of Slippery Rock Way and Carolina Shores Boulevard in The Farm at Brunswick. It was determined that the failure was caused by a split in the 6” FM due to debris (concrete “rip rap”) buried during construction. Staff was alerted at 4:52 PM and completed the repair the same evening at 9:45 PM.
Based on pump station runtime, prior to isolation, it was determined that approximately 1,000 to 1,200 gallons of untreated wastewater reached a tributary of Singletree Swamp, part of the Waccamaw River basin. Staff utilized a vacuum truck to recover remaining wastewater on-site and lime stabilized the affected areas as applicable. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C(b).
