Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of treated wastewater from an irrigation force main near 349 Forest Street Extension in Shallotte, NC on March 13, 2024. The discharge was discovered at approximately 3:30 PM. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the break was caused by a contractor clearing the site for installation of a sedimentation basin. County staff isolated the force main at approximately 4:15 PM on March 13, 2024.
Repairs are currently ongoing. It is believed approximately 31,500 gallons have been discharged and reached Woodward Branch. Downstream sampling and remediation of the affected site is ongoing. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
