PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater near 573 Ocean Isle Beach Road in Ocean Isle Beach, NC on August 4, 2024. The force main leak was discovered at approximately 6:55 AM and was isolated at 7:52 AM. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the leak was caused by a 4-inch crack on the force main.
The force main was repaired and put back into service at approximately 12:30 PM on August 4, 2024. It is believed approximately 1,500 gallons have been discharged and reached a tributary of the Shallotte River. Downstream sampling and remediation of the affected site is ongoing. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
