PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater near 3872 Bancroft Drive in St. James, North Carolina on January 20, 2025. The force main leak was discovered at approximately 9:45 AM. County staff isolated the force main at 12:30 PM to begin repairs. Repairs were completed at approximately 6:15 PM. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the leak was caused by a stress crack on the bell connection of a 12-inch sewer force main.
It is believed approximately 18,000 gallons were discharged from the break, with approximately 10,0000 gallons being recovered by pumper truck and 8,000 gallons reaching Beaver Dam Creek. Remediation of the affected site is complete and downstream sampling is ongoing.
This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
