PUBLIC NOTICE
NOTICE OF DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTEWATER
Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater near 50 College Road NE in Bolivia, North Carolina on January 21, 2025. The force main leak was reported at approximately 9:06 AM. County staff isolated the force main at 9:30 AM to begin repairs. Repairs were completed at approximately 6:30 PM. Staff from Brunswick County Public Utilities investigated the site and determined the leak was caused by a cracked 4-inch sewer force main.
It is believed approximately 39,000 gallons were discharged from the break, with approximately 24,000 gallons being recovered by pumper truck and 15,000 gallons reaching Clark Branch a tributary of the Lockwood Folly River. Remediation of the affected site is complete and downstream sampling is ongoing.
This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C.
No action is required by the public at this time. Additional information will be provided if action is necessary.
